What Purpose Will the Facebook Metaverse Serve?
At the Facebook Connect 2021 event, Facebook’s founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, introduced the metaverse platform named “Horizon,” which he described as the “new form of the internet.” Zuckerberg’s presentation on the metaverse detailed the concept of instant access to an unlimited virtual universe through AR glasses. Horizon will feature a combination of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies to present both real life and virtual life.
The Horizon platform will include Horizon, Horizon Home, Horizon Worlds, and Horizon Workrooms. Within the Horizon environment, users will find virtual dimensions of various social spaces, such as cafes, games, sports activities, concerts, parties, and workplaces. In this virtual realm, users will be able to meet with friends, chat, and engage in any activities they desire.
Since the announcement of the Facebook metaverse project, the company’s stock on U.S. exchanges has surged. Facebook shares, which were priced at $314, have increased by 4%, reaching $324.
Will the Metaverse Be Useful for Business Sectors?
Beyond playing games and engaging in various activities with friends in a virtual environment, the Facebook metaverse will also bring business sectors into the virtual realm.
